2015.12.14

So my Strength of Schedule source didn't have one ready after the Conference Championship games, so I had to wait until after the Army-Navy game to have all the data for my final rankings before bowl games begin. As usual, my rankings are very close to the College Football Playoff Committees. The only difference being they jumped Michigan State ahead of Oklahoma, simply because the Spartans participated in and won a conference championship game. Time for bowl mania to commence...

2015.11.29

Conference Championship games this weekend and Army/Navy December 12, but for all intents and purposes, next week's ranking will seal the top 4's fate. Should be interesting if Top 4 all win, if there is any movement in their final positioning for playoffs.

Right now, the CFP Committee has the two undefeated teams on one side of the bracket and the two one loss teams on the other. Could Iowa jump to 3 or even 2 with just a win or a convincing win over 5th ranked Michigan State? What happens if Alabama loses to Florida, do they drop from top 4? Could Florida leapfrog from 9 to 4? Could North Carolina move from 10 to 4 with win over Clemson? UNC's only loss was the first game of the season to a highly touted SEC conference team, albeit, it was 3-9 South Carolina.

Oklahoma is the only team without a Conference Championship game. That should solidify their Top 4 position for the playoffs as I don't see two teams leaping them in the final week. Needless to say it will be interesting.

If you don't approve of a committee picking the teams and would rather have a system like mine determine the Top 4, here is what you should route for.

UNC over Clemson
Florida over Alabama
Michigan State over Iowa (though no one seems to give them credit so maybe keep them in there.)
Stanford over USC (CFP has them within reach if Top 4 teams all loose.)
Houston over Temple (Houston is to low in CFP ranking, but I'd like to see how far they move in my ranking.)

2015.11.22

We are coming down to the final couple of weeks of games. It can't get much more exciting than this. I feel the final Top 4 will come down to strength of schedule and strength of conference or perceived strength. Alabama currently has the worst strength of schedule of the Top 6 with the system I use. And the Big 12 has the best strength of conference with the system I use.

I don't know how much subjectivity influences the College Football Committees input, but it seems considerable. My ranking is purely objective, which is how it should be. Good luck to all those teams involved in the race. Make your statement by winning out.

2015.11.08

So no system is perfect. Mine has LSU ranked ahead of Alabama, likely because of a better strength of schedule. However, in a final ranking, I would manually switch them as the Tide rolled the Tigers during the season. That is one variable my ranking doesn't take into account as it would be to complex for me to extrapolate with the data I collect. We still have plenty of games and Conference Championships remaining to sort this all out. Let's give these teams time to claim their playoff berths or throw them away.

2015.11.01

So the day is finally here, and the College Football Playoff Committee has released their first ranking of the season. Surprisingly, their 1-2 coincide with mine, deservedly giving those to Clemson and LSU. Unfortunately, humans are still giving this year's Ohio State team too much credit for last year's National Title, ranking them at 3 compared to my 5. No loss teams will be in a tizzy that two one-loss teams stole the initial 4-5 spots from them. Surely, Michigan State, TCU and the other undefeated teams deserve more respect. Over the next 4-5 weeks, those undefeated teams will stand off against other undefeated teams within the same conference. Things will shake out, but I believe the undefeated teams from major conference deserve more credit than Alabama and Notre Dame.
