NCAA Football 2010

The 2010 NCAA Football season is almost upon us and preseason rankings are being published.  But these are contrived rankings based on how a team played last year, what impact players were lost, what returners should step up, what incoming players could be difference makers and a whole lot of posturing based on nothing that has happened this season to set the big teams up to finish in the top 2 at years end.

The only thing the BCS does right is wait several weeks before releasing their first ranking.  However, they use biased human rankings in their asinine formula to give us our "championship" game.  They pray for two undefeated teams in the BCS conferences.

My poll will be released after week 4, sometimes later.  The only way to fairly rank teams is to allow them to produce a body of work to judge them on.  We all know a loss in FBS almost eliminates you from a shot at the "championship" and two losses can cost you a BCS berth.  Give the teams a chance to show us who they really are before you start ranking them.  Let them get 4+ wins in their pocket and have no season ending injuries before you give any of them the nod as 1 or 2 or top 10 for that matter.

I use a mathematical formula to determine my rankings which causes the rankings to shift drastically over the first several weeks until things start to settle down.  It isn't based on who you play, but rather how you play.  And I rank all 120 teams, every week, and post the entire list for your viewing pleasure.  So while we are still 10 days out from the first competition and a month or so away from my first ranking, sit back, grab a brew and enjoy some football.
